Adjust your Ergonomic Chair

Never be afraid to adjust your ergonomic chair, the adjustments are there to be used. Remember the most important thing is to be comfortable while at the same time being supported by your chair. The chair was probably designed to suit a wide variety of uses so you need to find the right settings for you.

Height
As everyone is different the height of the chair should be adjusted so that your feet are flat on the floor (if you’re not very tall then try using an adjustable footrest). Make sure that your hips are above your knees and your thighs are pointing slightly down usually just above 90˚. This enables your digestive system to perform better while it’s much easier to breathe.

Back
With the back being one of the most important parts of an ergonomic chair it essential that it is adjusted correctly. The backrest height should be adjusted so that the lumber support is in on your lower back and the convex shape is supporting your lumber region.  Always sit right back in your chair so that your lower back is against the backrest. If you perch or slough on your seat for long times, the chances of you developing a back problem becomes very high.

Seat
The seat depth should be adjusted to the length of your legs. The seat pan should be set so there is a distance of 5cm between the back of the legs and the front edge of the seat (ie the water fall edge). This will ensure good flow of oxygenated blood around your body in turn helping your concentration.

Arms
The armrest should provide support from your chair whilst allowing your forearms to be move freely. The armrest should be set at 90˚ angle and your forearms should be resting on the desk.
