At RH, we develop chairs with you – the person who will sit in them – as our starting point. We have done it like this since Rolf Holstensson started the company in 1977 in Bodafors, the Småland region of Sweden (we also get our name from Rolf).

Rolf himself had bad experiences of sitting still during work and he also noticed that more and more people around him suffered from strain and stress injuries for that very reason. Things did not improve with the advent of the computer, but oddly enough, there were no chairs around that solved the problem.

Like the good Smålander that he was, Rolf took matters into his own hands and developed a chair that facilitated upright posture, provided good support and encouraged active sitting. And the chair was easy to use. Thus the first RH Chair was born – which actually became something of a revolution.

SInce then, we have launched many more solutions and chairs. Today we are known among ergonomics professionals, physiotherapists and other experts both in Sweden and abroad. We even have our 2PP™ technology, which puts our philosophy into practice. To ensure that our chairs are as great to look at as they are to sit in, we work together with some of Sweden’s leading designers. Naturally we take our responsibility for the environment seriously, which is why our chairs are recyclable down to the last part.

Today RH has locations in six European countries. That makes us a major player. The most important however, is what we have meant, and what we continue to mean for people’s health and performance at work.
